PUBLIC HEARING NOTICE: PROPOSED ORDINANCE 2023-13

The Village of Elk Rapids Village Council will hold a public hearing at their regular meeting on Tuesday January 16, 2024, at the Governmental Center, 315 Bridge Street, at 6:30 p.m. The purpose of the public hearings is to consider and receive community input on:

1. Proposed Ordinance 2023-13 – Amendment to § 2-52 (e) (Regular Meetings. Time.) of the Code of Ordinances.

The proposed ordinances can be found on the Village’s website, elkrapids.org or copies can be viewed during normal business hours at the Government Center.

Community members are invited to attend this hearing to speak either pro or con on these matters. Written comments can be directed to the Village of Elk Rapids, 315 Bridge Street, P.O. Box 398, Elk Rapids, MI 49629.

NOTICE OF ADOPTION: ORDINANCE 2023-09 & 2023-12

The Village of Elk Rapids ordains that two (2) new ordinances, as text amendment to the Village of Elk Rapids Code of Ordinances, were duly adopted at the regular council meeting held on December 5, 2023, as follows:

1. Ordinance 2023-09: Libraries in Industrial District – Amendment to §44-38 (Zoning District Intent) & §44-75 (District Tables of Permitted Use) of the Code of Ordinances.

2. Ordinance 2023-12: Violations and Penalties for Unregistered Short-Term Rentals – Amendment to §8-66 (Violations and Penalties) of the Code of Ordinances.

Effective Date: December 22, 2023.

Property Fraud Alert

At the last Regular Council Meeting, Antrim County Register of Deeds Patty Niepoth presented a free fraud prevention program that is available. Property Fraud Alert is an online subscription service offered to the public that allows them to have their name monitored within the Recorder’s office in order to track possible fraudulent recordings that affects their property.

The threat of mortgage fraud and identity theft crimes continue to rise, and all too often victims of these types of fraudulent activities are unaware their homes or identity have been stolen. While Property Fraud Alert does not prevent fraud from happening, it does provide an early warning system for property owners to take appropriate actions should they determine possible fraudulent activity has taken place.

It’s simple! Just enter your personal and/or business name and you will be notified when a document is recorded if the name is matched in the system.

Extended Leaf Pickup

The Elk Rapids DPW will be extending leaf pick-up for one week only. The final day for this service will be Friday December 1, 2023.

The Shoreline Action Plan Committee will be meeting at the Government Center on Monday November 13, 2023 at 4:00 p.m. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend.

NOTICE: SPECIAL PLANNING COMMITTEE MEETING TO REVIEW DRAFT MASTER PLAN ON NOV. 16 @ 6 P.M.

The Planning Commission will be holding a special meeting to review the draft Master Plan on November 16, 2023 at 6:00 p.m. The meeting will take place at the Elk Rapids Government Center, 315 Bridge Street. GOVERNMENT OFFICE CLOSED FOR VETERANS DAY

The Elk Rapids Government Center will be closed on Friday November 10, 2023 in observance of Veteran’s Day. Offices will reopen during regular hours on Monday November 13, 2023.

PUBLIC INPUT NEEDED: HARBOR VISIONING SESSION NOV. 14 @ 6:30 P.M.

The public is invited and encouraged to attend a community input session to help plan for the future of the Edward C. Grace Memorial Harbor. The Community engagement event will take place on Tuesday November 14, 2023 from 6:30 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Government Center, 315 Bridge Street. Please come out and join us!

CANCELLED – OCTOBER 25, 2023 DOWNTOWN AREA CITIZENS COUNCIL MEETING

The October 25, 2023 Downtown Area Citizens Council meeting has been cancelled. This is to create some more time for the TIF Plan draft to come together. The November 15, 2023 is scheduled as planned and there will be an additional meeting on December 12, 2023 at 6:00 p.m.
