The Village of Elk Rapids is offering Water Safety Lessons. Classes will run for two weeks with three lessons per week. Sign-ups will start Monday, June 3rd, 2024 at 9:00 a.m. and end Wednesday, June 19, 2024 at 3:00 p.m. You can sign up online at elkrapids.org or go to the Elk Rapids Government Center to fill out a paper form. There will be a $50 charge per session, and students can only sign up for one session per summer. Students will be admitted on a first-come, first-serve basis. The Downtown Development Authority (DDA) will be holding its bi-annual informational meeting at the November 7, 2023 regular council meeting, which will take place at 7:00 p.m. at the Elk Rapids Government Center, 315 Bridge Street, Elk Rapids, MI 49629. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
Informational meetings are meetings for the purpose of informing the public of the goals and direction of the authority, including projects to be undertaken in the coming year. They are not for the purpose of voting on policy, budgets or other operational matters.

There will be a boater safety class offered this fall in Elk Rapids! Boat America, an 8 hour class, is a boater safety class for novice recreational boaters ages 12 and older. The class is being offered by the Traverse City Coast Guard Auxiliary. Topics covered include boating safety and safety equipment, emergency procedures, navigation rules and aids, and boating regulations. The class will meet on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at the Harbor Pavilion in Elk Rapids. The class will meet from 8 am to 5 pm with a lunch break at noon. You must attend all 8 hours to get your boater safety certificate. Cost is $15 to cover cost of book and certificate.
Preregister by September 30 by emailing Dianne Walker at diannewalk48@gmail.com ( minimum of 10 students needed to hold the class).

The public is invited and encouraged to attend a presentation on the Elk Rapids River Corridor Assessment at the October 3, 2023 regular council meeting at 7:00 p.m. Noah Johnson of the Tip of the Mitt Watershed Council will go over the highlights of the assessment. The Bridge Street Housing Project Review Team will be holding two review sessions on June 28, 2023, at the Elk Rapids Government Center. At 3:00 p.m. the team will host Homestretch to go over their proposal, and at 4:00 the Revonare proposal will be reviewed. These informational sessions will give the team an opportunity to go over the proposals and ask clarifying questions. No decisions on how to move forward will happen at these sessions. The public is invited and encouraged to attend.
