Village Manager Report: June 6, 2022

Check out the updates that Village Manager Bryan Gruesbeck presented to council at the regular meeting on June 6, 2022:

  • Human Resources: We are hiring a few new faces onto village staff this summer. We have extended an offer for a swim instructor Allison Shumate to launch a small pilot program on open water safety and swimming lessons. Calvin DeVogel has accepted an offer to join the DPW and his start date is June 13, 2022. Our summer intern, Ted Arnold, is set to start July 5, 2022. We are excited for these folks to join the village team.
  • Additional Governance Training: In addition to the basic governance training, council and other boards and commissions have expressed interest in additional trainings, such as diversity equity, and inclusion (DEI) in the government setting, rules of procedure, and information on ethics. If council is amenable to additional trainings, there is $7075.00 left to spend for training/conferences ($925.00 was spent on the MSUE good governance basics training on May 18, 2022).
  • Community Outreach: This summer the village booth will be present at several community events. The first event staff we be at is the Green Elk Rapids Nature Fest on June 18, 2022. We will also be at the Evenings on River Street events, and we hope to attend more events such as the farmers market in town. Staff will be putting together some surveys to hand out and collect at these events on various topics such as the strategic goals, communication efforts, and more. Looking forward to chatting with community members and visitors at these events on educational pieces and various issues.
  • Citizens Academy: The first Citizens Academy took place on Tuesday May 31, 2022. We have a group of seven interested community members who are attending classes. Once they finish the four classes, they will become “Citizen Ambassadors” and will be honored at a regular council meeting in July, TBD.
