ELK RAPIDS SOLID WASTE COMMUNITY DECISION PROCESS
The Village Council is examining options to create a better quality of service for taking care of trash and recycling within the Village.
This process will involve determining price options for trash and recycling services and how to pay for them. The public will be asked for input before the Village Council makes a decision.
At the August 15, 2022 regular meeting, Council directed Staff to put together a Request for Quotes (RFQ) which asks private waste haulers to submit bids to provide solid waste and recycling services. Staff presented and discussed a draft RFQ with the Village Council during the September 6, 2022 regular council meeting. Based on this input from the Village Council, Staff will edit and release the RFQ to potential vendors.
Village residents and businesses currently self-deliver bags of garbage by driving across town to the compactor site adjacent to the Village Wastewater Treatment Plant. The new service would allow residents to place waste bins at the curb once per week (or once bi-weekly for recycling). Likewise, the Village will also seek bids withing the RFQ to allow residents to get rid of appliances and other household items on demand – as opposed to once per spring.
Please note that the Village retains the right to reject any or all bids and to waive irregularities in bids and accept any bid which, in the opinion of the Village Council, may be most advantageous to the Village.
