The Village of Elk Rapids is saddened to announce the passing of former Village Manager Bill Cooper.

August 6, 1949 – November 16, 2022
William “Bill” Cooper passed away early morning November 16, 2022, after a short battle with cancer. His family was by his side for the final few days, and with him when he crossed over. Bill was born to Bernice and John Cooper of Riverdale, Illinois. Bill attended Thornton High School in Harvey, Illinois, and, after graduating, enlisted in the United States Air Force, serving eight years as an aircraft electrician. Bill eventually went on to obtain his Bachelor of Arts degree and a Master’s in Public Administration. A beloved public servant, he held government positions in Riverdale, Illinois, Hamtramck, Mount Clemens, and finally in Elk Rapids, Michigan, where he retired.
Bill is survived by: his wife, Diana Nee Lynn; his daughter, Christine (John) Clarida; grandchildren, Taylor, Madison and Logan; Diana’s children, Shelly Ambrose and Scott Greenlee; her grandson, Zach Ambrose; and a very long and glorious list of friends and colleagues.
Bill’s family will receive visitors from 11:00 AM -1:00 PM on Saturday, November 19, 2022, at Beacon Cremation & Funeral Service, Covell-Elk Rapids Chapel, 312 Pine Street, Elk Rapids, Michigan.
